Ibranz has conducted research in Second
Life since 2006 to understand Business
Owners and how Brands
Function in a virtual setting. Since this environment
continues to evolve and mature, the dynamics of how a business
functions or promotes itself will also change with time.
Methodology:
A series of surveys were conducted throughout Second Life
(Grid) to acquire opinions of SL residents. The method for collecting
information was derived through the use of free-standing kiosks. A sign
attached to the kiosk states the intended purpose (self administered
survey) and once activated, prompts the user through a series of open
and closed-end questions. The questions were centered around the
following precepts:
1) Directed toward Business Owners exclusively
2) Focus was on business and brand attributes in SL
3) Respondants are not paid for their answers
Business
Owners Survey I: The initial survey conducted
asked Owners about their business in Second Life such as why
they transitioned there, challenges their brand faced, and how they
were going to solve their unique marketing situation. A series of 20
questions and 100 responces were neatly complied into graphical
results. This survey will be available for purchase in a PDF version by
late
January 2008.
Business
Owners Survey II: What's working, what's not, and why? The
second survey dealves into how business owners are adjusting to Second
Life's changing landscape. These questions focus specifically on
growth/decline, financial costs and revenues, and direction their
business was headed. This survey will be available by February 2008 in
a
PDF format.
